Daniel Day better known as Dapper Dan is a clothing designer from the Manhattan neighbor of East Harlem. He opened his own boutique in the year 1983 in the heart of Harlem on 125th Street Between Madison and 5th Avenue. He was creating custom garments of the highest quality silks, furs, minks, and everything luxury at the time for everyone from Mike Tyson to Salt-N-Pepa.
Dan would use the logos of European fashion houses such as Gucci and Louis Vuitton, and repurpose them into all over print Tracksuits, Bomber jackets, and whatever else was a trending garment of the time. Soon Dan's designs would catch the eyes of these fashion houses.
Not soon after US Marshalls in 1992 would raid his storefront of all fabrics that contained other brands logos because the fashion houses believed it was unfair that they were not receiving royalties from any of the off any the clothing that had been branded in with there logos. After that Dapper Dan disappeared from the public eye until now.
After officially being the face of Gucci's Autumn/Winter capsule and opening an Exclusive store in Harlem. Gucci and Dapper Dan have unveiled their first collection of apparel and accessories. The collection will be previewed in Gucci's new space on Wooster St in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. This will be Gucci's first ever presence in Soho.
